Nigeria Eyes Saudi Arabia: Boost for Tourism & Investment on the Horizon!

Nigeria has reaffirmed its strong commitment to bolstering investment, trade, and tourism relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The federal government, under President Bola Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope Agenda,' declared Nigeria open for business and strategically positioned to attract significant foreign investment. This declaration was made by Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, on Tuesday at the Nigeria-Saudi Diaspora Investment and Tourism Exhibition Summit 2026 in Abuja.

Minister Idris emphasized that the Tinubu administration is actively implementing comprehensive economic reforms designed to foster a competitive, investor-friendly economy. These reforms are anchored on principles of enterprise, innovation, and private sector-led growth. He stated, "Nigeria is open for business and ready for deeper partnership with Saudi Arabia. Our economic reforms are creating new opportunities for investment, trade and tourism, and we invite investors to take advantage of the enormous potential our country offers."

The summit was described by the minister as a crucial platform for governments, investors, and the private sector to forge practical partnerships aimed at expanding trade, stimulating investment, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening overall economic cooperation between the two nations. He elaborated that the 'Renewed Hope Agenda' is actively transforming Nigeria's investment landscape through targeted reforms in critical sectors such as infrastructure development, economic diversification, agriculture, education financing, digital innovation, skills development, and national security.

These reforms, according to Idris, are establishing a robust foundation for sustainable economic growth and positioning Nigeria as a preferred destination for both regional and global investment. He stressed the importance of presenting an accurate, balanced, and confident narrative about Nigeria, affirming, "Our responsibility is to continue projecting an accurate, balanced and confident narrative about Nigeria. Investment flourishes where there is transparency, policy consistency and trust. We are committed to ensuring that the world sees Nigeria for what it truly is--a country of immense opportunity, resilience and promise."

Furthermore, Minister Idris highlighted the indispensable role played by Nigerians in the diaspora in promoting the country's economic potential. He acknowledged that their expertise, entrepreneurial successes, and extensive global networks are instrumental in strengthening bilateral relations and attracting foreign investment into Nigeria. He urged all participants at the summit to transcend mere discussions, advocating for the translation of ideas into tangible partnerships through increased investments, technology transfer, tourism development, innovation, and joint ventures. "Let us move beyond dialogue to action. Let us build partnerships that create jobs, grow businesses, promote innovation and improve the lives of our people," he added.

Adding to the discourse, Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), called for enhanced economic collaboration between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, particularly through diaspora-driven investments. She encouraged investors to explore diverse opportunities in sectors such as real estate, agriculture, tourism, logistics, and other strategic areas. Dr. Dabiri-Erewa underscored that the Nigerian diaspora contributes significantly beyond financial remittances, bringing invaluable global expertise, market intelligence, credibility, and powerful networks that can unlock substantial investment and create jobs. She reiterated, "Our diaspora contributes far more than remittances. They bring global expertise, market intelligence, credibility and valuable networks that can unlock investment and create jobs. Let us move beyond conversations to practical partnerships that will strengthen commercial ties between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia."

The summit successfully brought together a diverse group of senior government officials, prominent business leaders, investors, development partners, and members of the Nigerian diaspora. Their collective aim was to explore and capitalize on opportunities for expanding investment, tourism, and broader economic cooperation between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
