The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially confirmed Malam Muhammad Nami as the Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State. This declaration comes as Nami's name was included among the 15 candidates whose names were published at the INEC headquarters, all cleared to contest the upcoming governorship election.
The comprehensive list of cleared candidates includes a diverse political field. Alongside Muhammad Nami of the PDP, the candidates are Alidu Mohammed representing AAC, Mohammed Kpautagi for ADC, Idris Mohammed of ADP, and the incumbent Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for APC. Other candidates feature Mohammed Adamu from APGA, Abdulmalik Saidu Akpayi for APM, Bello Isah Mohammed of APP, Mohammed Usman for the Labour Party, Mohammed Yahaya Adam of NDC, Sani Alfa for NDP, Adamu Ibrahim representing PRP, Mohammed Ndarani of SDP, Umaru Larat Aliyu for YPP, and Kolo Mohammed Aminu, also representing YPP.
Following this significant announcement, supporters of Malam Muhammad Nami expressed immense jubilation. A press statement released by the Muhammad Nami Media Directorate over the weekend in Minna, Niger State, further fueled the excitement. The statement unequivocally confirmed that INEC has published its final list of gubernatorial candidates for the February 6, 2027 governorship election, with Mallam Muhammad Nami officially listed as the PDP's candidate for Niger State.
The Directorate's statement emphasized that this development authenticates Mallam Muhammad Nami's candidature, clearly demonstrating that he is not impacted by a recent Supreme Court judgment obtained by INEC. Consequently, all supporters of Muhammad Nami have been strongly urged to participate in the ongoing Permanent Voter's Card (PVC) collection exercise being conducted by INEC. This call to action is in preparation for the 2027 General Elections, where they are encouraged to vote for the PDP candidate to lead Niger State back onto a path of progress and greatness.
Interviews with some of Nami's supporters revealed their satisfaction, reiterating that INEC has fulfilled the aspirations of the state's populace, contrary to the expectations of the ruling APC in the state. Mohammed Baba, a staunch supporter, confidently asserted that Nami's victory is imminent, promising that Niger State shall indeed be great again under his leadership.
