The veteran broadcaster passed away while undergoing treatment for meningitis on the night of April 28, 2025.

His death has left a void in the hearts of many who admired his distinct voice, humour, and charismatic presence on the airwaves.

Among those hit hardest by the loss is Hot 96 presenter Nick Odhiambo, who revealed that Kwach was not just a colleague but his first cousin.

In a heartfelt tribute, Nick opened up about their deep family connection and how Kwach's journey into radio inspired his career path.

"Many people don't know this... but we are first cousins," Nick shared. "When he got into radio back in the '90s, my dream of joining the industry became more relatable because Carey had done it. I followed in his footsteps."

Nick credited Kwach with making the dream of working in radio feel achievable.

Their careers intertwined over the years, with the cousins maintaining a friendly competition, especially when it came to securing voice-over work and adverts — a testament to their mutual respect and admiration.

"It's sad that some of the ideas we had will not materialise, but I will keep the dream alive," Nick promised in his emotional post, signaling his commitment to honouring Kwach’s legacy by pushing forward in his own career.

The news of Kwach’s passing was confirmed by family spokesperson Michael Okwiri.

In their statement, the family praised Kwach for the profound impact he made on many lives through his voice and presence on radio.

They recalled how he became a trusted companion to countless listeners across the country.

Before his death, Kwach had been hospitalised for several weeks, even appealing for blood donations, which drew an overwhelming show of support from fans and fellow media personalities.

Veteran presenter Maina Kageni also paid tribute to Kwach, describing him as "the greatest radio personality Kenya has ever produced."

Maina reminisced about the golden years they shared together on Kiss 100, where Kwach’s broadcast genius shone through, inspiring a generation of media practitioners.

As tributes continue to pour in from across the country, it is clear that Kwach’s impact went far beyond the microphone.

His influence helped shape the careers of many, including his cousin Nick Odhiambo, and left an indelible mark on Kenya’s media landscape.

As earlier reported, media personalities across Kenya paid heartfelt tributes to Kwach, celebrating him not just as a trailblazing radio presenter, but as a cherished friend, mentor, and inspiration.
