Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has publicly refuted any intentions of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other political party. This announcement came during a closed-door meeting with PDP stakeholders in Osogbo, where Adeleke addressed rumors of his potential defection as “fake news” propagated by those intimidated by his administration's performance. He has been a PDP member since 2017, holding positions such as Osun West senator and eventually securing the governorship in 2022 after defeating Adegboyega Oyetola.

The meeting included prominent PDP figures, such as former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola (virtually), PDP state chairman Sunday Bisi, House Speaker Adewale Egbedun, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Lasun Yusuf. Stakeholders at the forum passed a vote of confidence in Adeleke's governance and endorsed him as the sole PDP candidate for the 2026 election.

Adeleke's declaration comes amid a period of significant defections from the PDP to the APC, including figures like Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. These defections have been attributed to internal strife within the PDP, with the APC allegedly using state resources and intimidation to sway members. The PDP, which was the ruling party from 1999 to 2015, has since faced challenges as the opposition party, grappling with internal issues and defections.

During the meeting, other PDP leaders, including Wale Oladipo, Chairman of the Imole Movement, reaffirmed their commitment to the party. Lawmakers like Akanni Olohunwa praised Adeleke's achievements and expressed confidence in the PDP's future electoral success. A communique issued at the end of the forum declared confidence in Adeleke and commended the state PDP for its handling of the local government leadership crisis, emphasizing unity and rejecting recent defections.

In addition to political matters, Governor Adeleke recently attended the wedding of Priscilla Ojo, daughter of Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, where he performed and entertained guests.
