News and Tributes Following Death of TikToker Milly Wa Doc

The Kenyan TikTok community is mourning the tragic loss of popular Nakuru-based content creator, Milly wa Doc, who passed away on June 3 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nakuru county. Her death has left her fans, friends, and family heartbroken, with messages of condolences pouring in and past social media posts being unearthed, painting a picture of the beloved TikToker.

Milly wa Doc's health issues began with a cyst in her stomach, for which she underwent surgery. According to her friend Monica and a family aunt, the surgery led to complications, including significant blood loss requiring a transfusion. Although she was discharged after three days, her condition worsened. She was readmitted to the hospital, where doctors discovered both her kidneys had failed. Despite plans for dialysis if medication proved ineffective, Milly tragically succumbed to her illness.

Milly is survived by her two children, a 19-year-old son named Brian, and a daughter named Sheila. She was known to love her children dearly, often posting about them while carefully protecting their privacy by not showing their faces. In a poignant birthday message to Brian in December 2024, she celebrated him, noting she became a mother at 15 and was proud to be raising a gentleman. Her children, particularly Brian, who was reportedly with her at the hospital, are now faced with this immense loss. The family has mentioned that contributions for her send-off can be made to Milly's number, with Brian as the custodian.

Just a month before her untimely death, in April, Milly wa Doc had married her husband, Odeke. While Odeke maintained a low profile online, Milly occasionally shared glimpses of their affectionate relationship on TikTok, including moments of them sharing meals and enjoying each other's company. Odeke, who spoke briefly at a family meeting after her passing, is now mourning his wife after a short but seemingly happy marriage. Milly had explained that her husband was a private person, which is why his face was often obscured in her videos.

Milly wa Doc's life was not without its challenges. She had previously shared details of a troubled upbringing, having lost her parents at a young age, with her mother battling alcoholism. This led to her dropping out of school and entering relationships early to sustain herself and her child. Before her marriage to Odeke, Milly was in a public and ultimately tumultuous relationship with a clinical doctor known as "Doc" or "Daddy." This relationship ended bitterly, with Milly accusing him of narcissism, emotional abuse, and betrayal. She had also made serious allegations that he once tried to make inappropriate advances towards her daughter. Her experiences led her to advise her followers against relationships with narcissists.

The news of Milly's death has also prompted reflections from others, such as Carolyne DeMathew, wife of the late Mugithi icon John DeMathew. Carolyne shared a moving tribute, questioning the painful nature of love, seemingly alluding to Milly's past relationship struggles. Milly's past social media activity also included a TBT video where she tearfully shut down previous death rumours, and another where she spoke about plans for her children in the event of her death.

In the wake of her passing, Milly wa Doc's family has revealed financial difficulties, including rent arrears amounting to KSh 195,000 for her Nakuru apartment, for which an eviction notice had reportedly been issued. They are seeking financial assistance from the public to cover these arrears and to give Milly a befitting send-off. A significant hospital bill of KSh 393,435 was reportedly covered by a health scheme (SHA). The family is now navigating the difficult path of grief and making arrangements, while her fans remember the vibrant personality they came to know through TikTok.
