New Yorkers can expect slightly worse weather as storms are predicted to hit after a run of summer-like conditions.

The tri-state area is bracing for a round of stormy weather that could bring heavy downpours, damaging winds and potential flash flooding through the weekend. It comes as summer has finally arrived and the warmer weather brings along the stormy conditions.

Storms began developing Friday afternoon as hot, humid air combined with an approaching cold front. The most intense activity is expected north and northwest of New York City, including the Hudson Valley, Connecticut, and parts of North Jersey.

Northern counties such as Sullivan and Ulster could see the heaviest rain, raising concerns about ponding on roads and isolated flash flooding during the evening commute.

Some storms may turn severe, with wind gusts exceeding 60 mph capable of downing tree limbs and causing localized damage, NBC New York reports.

Residents across the tri-state area—including New York City, the Hudson Valley, Connecticut, and North Jersey—can expect stormy conditions through the weekend.

The heaviest impacts are forecast in northern counties such as Sullivan and Ulster, where isolated flash flooding and wind damage are possible.

After a stretch of summer-like sunshine and heat, a shift toward stormier conditions has arrived. A cold front combined with hot, humid air has sparked thunderstorms, some of which may become severe.

Heavy rainfall and very strong winds are forecast for the beginning of the weekend on Saturday, with drier conditions returning by Sunday.

Storms began developing Friday afternoon and are expected to persist into Saturday evening. Rainfall may be heavy at times, particularly Saturday afternoon.

By Sunday, most areas will dry out, offering more favorable conditions for outdoor events. A brief period of showers may return late Sunday into early Monday.

Another round of storms is likely on Tuesday before a return to more stable, summery weather mid-to-late next week.

The storms pose risks including heavy rainfall, localized flooding, and damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. Commuters and outdoor eventgoers—such as those attending Saturday’s Pokémon Go Fest or Sunday’s Puerto Rican Day Parade—should take precautions.

While Sunday offers a reprieve with mild, dry conditions, additional storms early next week could disrupt travel and outdoor plans. The good news: a return to sunshine and 80-degree temperatures is expected by the latter half of next week.
