New U.S.-Engineered Apollo III Miner Powers Up Home Bitcoin Mining!

FutureBit has officially launched the Apollo III, an innovative new home Bitcoin mining system that integrates a high-performance miner with a full Bitcoin node into a single, compact desktop device. This pioneering system is engineered with next-generation 3nm American-designed ASICs and a custom in-house controller. Notably, the Apollo III represents a significant milestone as the first U.S.-engineered Bitcoin ASIC to be paired with a domestically built hardware platform in a consumer desktop form factor, a development highlighted in a note shared with Bitcoin Magazine.
The introduction of the Apollo III reinforces FutureBit’s enduring mission to foster decentralization of hash power through low-power, individual-focused systems. John Stefanopoulos, the founder of FutureBit, emphasized the device's pivotal role in enhancing Bitcoin’s decentralization. He proudly referenced a major company achievement in 2024, when FutureBit's customers successfully mined one of the first modern-era sovereign solo blocks, demonstrating that industrial scale is not a prerequisite for meaningful participation in the Bitcoin network. Stefanopoulos stated, “Apollo III expands that possibility. Nearly 20 terahash of efficient, accessible hash power in the hands of individuals strengthens the decentralization that Bitcoin was built for.”
Key technical specifications of the Apollo III underscore its capabilities and efficiency. The device delivers up to 18 TH/s in Turbo Mode, while achieving an impressive efficiency of up to 15 J/TH in Eco Mode. It features an integrated full Bitcoin node, enabling solo mining capabilities directly from the device. The system's robust desktop-class controller is powered by 8 ARM cores, supported by 8 GB of RAM, and includes a substantial 2 TB SSD. Designed for continuous operation in various environments like homes or offices, the Apollo III consistently provides more than 10 TH/s of hash power while consuming electricity comparable to standard household electronics, making it an accessible solution for personal Bitcoin infrastructure.
FutureBit positions the Apollo III as a personal computing solution for Bitcoin infrastructure, empowering individuals to operate both a miner and a full node without relying on large-scale industrial operations. This aligns with FutureBit's broader Apollo line of home Bitcoin miners, which includes previous models like the Apollo II, offering 10 TH/s and a full Linux node, making home mining more accessible while actively promoting network decentralization. The company’s vision is to restore "full Bitcoin citizenship" by combining individual mining power with the operation of a full node, thereby echoing Satoshi Nakamoto's original design principles. While home mining might no longer be primarily competitive for profit, it offers significant benefits such as enhanced privacy, educational opportunities, and the ability for users to independently verify their balances without dependence on third parties. By enabling individuals to mine and run their own nodes, FutureBit aims to cultivate a more resilient, distributed, and user-controlled Bitcoin network, contributing to both geographical and block template diversity, and effectively reducing the influence of large industrial pools and the potential for regulatory capture.
