New in: Horror in Hostel - Decapitated Nursing Student Found

A shocking and tragic incident has been reported in Umulogho, a community located within the Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria, where the decapitated body of a female nursing student was discovered in her hostel room. The victim, identified as Wendy Achumba, was reportedly killed by unknown assailants in the South-east region of the country, sparking widespread concern and grief.

PREMIUM TIMES gathered that Ms. Achumba, a student of the College of Nursing in Umuadara village within the same Umulogho Community, was found beheaded in her private off-campus apartment on Thursday evening. Hailing from Abia State, Wendy Achumba had reportedly completed her midwifery programme and was in the process of undergoing post-basic training at the institution, making the circumstances of her death particularly heartbreaking for her colleagues and the community.

Community sources provided details on the discovery, indicating that concerned neighbours forced her door open when she neither appeared nor responded to repeated knocks. A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted that upon gaining entry, they found the door locked from the inside. The scene revealed a gruesome sight: the victim's body was mutilated, and her mobile phone was notably missing, suggesting a potential robbery motive or an attempt to hinder investigation. The neighbour described Ms. Achumba as being full of life just a day prior to the discovery.

The Imo State Police Command has officially confirmed the incident. Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson in Imo State and a deputy superintendent of police, released a statement on Friday acknowledging the tragic death of the female nursing student. He stated that the divisional police officer for the area, along with other operatives, visited the location immediately upon receiving the information. Subsequently, Ms. Achumba’s body was recovered and deposited in the mortuary as a crucial step in the ongoing investigation.

Mr. Okoye assured the public that comprehensive investigations have commenced to unravel the precise circumstances surrounding the incident and to swiftly apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. The Imo State Police Command has appealed to both students and the wider public to maintain calm, emphasizing that the situation is under control and that every possible effort is being exerted to ensure that justice is served for Wendy Achumba.
