New Hyde Park Horror: Son Charged in Attempted Murder of Parents
A New Hyde Park man, Joshua Wilck, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing and assaulting his sleeping parents with a knife. The incident, which also involved a violation of a protection order, left his parents hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Wilck faces multiple felony charges and could receive a life sentence if convicted.
Joshua Wilck, a 24-year-old resident of New Hyde Park, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly assaulting his parents with a knife as they slept in their Cherrywood Drive home on Saturday. Nassau County police reported the incident occurred around 11:18 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Wilck physically restraining one of his parents.
According to authorities, Wilck entered his parents' bedroom and began attacking them with a kitchen knife. Prosecutors stated that Wilck, "with intent to kill," stabbed his parents multiple times in the neck and chest. He continued the assault as his parents, aged 60 and 64, attempted to flee their home. During the attack, he also wrapped his arms around his father's neck, attempting to choke him. Police intervened, pulling Wilck off his father and placing him under arrest.
Wilck's parents sustained severe lacerations and were transported to a hospital, where they remained in critical but stable condition as of Monday. Joshua Wilck faces a litany of charges, including two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing (also referred to as strangulation), aggravated criminal contempt for violating a court order of protection issued on February 3rd, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and resisting arrest.
During his arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, Wilck did not enter a plea. Bail was set at $200,000 cash or $400,000 bond. If convicted, Wilck could face a sentence of up to 25 years to life in prison. His parents remained hospitalized following the traumatic incident. The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, representing Wilck, was not available for comment.
