NDC urges NPP to reset and become stronger opposition

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to use its ongoing National Delegates Conference as a turning point to rebuild and become a more responsible and effective opposition for the good of Ghana’s democracy.

Delivering a solidarity message on behalf of the NDC at the University of Ghana Stadium, the party’s Director of Logistics and Protocol, Ludwig Hlordze, said Ghana’s current political climate demands deep reflection and constructive action from all parties.

“We wish you well as you gather to reset your party in a manner that allows you to play your role as a responsible opposition,” he stated.

Mr. Hlordze described Ghana as “a country in transition,” and encouraged both political parties to reset their ideas, policies, and programmes to match the nation’s development needs.

He commended the NPP for its efforts to reposition itself and stressed the importance of unity and bipartisan collaboration.

“Ghana needs a stronger opposition to enhance our democracy,” he noted. “We, as the political class, must leave a legacy for generations yet unborn by growing our democracy and creating a just country for all.”

Mr. Hlordze also urged the NPP to embrace its elder statesmen and maintain internal cohesion to strengthen its leadership.

“We hope that after this conference, your party will come out united, not divided. Ghana needs a strong opposition to support the nation-builder, John Mahama, as we work to rebuild the Ghana we all want,” he added.

The NPP’s National Delegates Conference, underway today, July 19, has drawn over 5,500 delegates. The gathering is expected to deliberate on key constitutional amendments to strengthen party structures and position the party for the 2028 general elections following its defeat in 2024.
