NCCE engages staff of Old Tafo Municipal Assembly on protecting the 1992 Constitution
By Yussif Ibrahim
Kumasi, May 22, GNA-The Old Tafo Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has organised a sensitisation programme aimed at reinforcing the collective duty of safeguarding Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
The event, held for staff of the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly, formed part of ongoing efforts to promote civic responsibility and constitutional awareness within public institutions.
Mr. Suraka Sani, the Municipal Director of NCCE, provided an in-depth presentation chronicling the historical administrative imbalances that contributed to the collapse of Ghana’s earlier constitutions between 1960 and 1981.
Drawing on these lessons, he stressed the enduring relevance of the 1992 Constitution and called on staff to contribute actively to its protection through unity, professionalism, and commitment to national development.
Mr. Saani also encouraged them to foster a spirit of harmony and exhibit excellence in their daily duties as public servants and citizens, noting that such values were essential to the stability and progress of democratic governance.
The sensitisation programme followed a durbar to formally introduce the newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Abubakar Saddique.
The event was attended by key officials of the Assembly, including the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Asokwa Sarpong, and all heads of department.
Mr. Sarpong lauded the NCCE for its intervention and encouraged staff not to only appreciate the insights shared but to apply them in their work and interactions.
He emphasised that the Constitution must remain a living document upheld through conscious and daily civic engagement.
The programme marks another step by the NCCE in its mission to deepen democratic culture and civic consciousness across the country.
