Belmont University women’s basketball head coach Bart Brooks has announced Jordyn Cambridge (5'9''-G) as the Bruins’ newest assistant coach. A three-time Vanderbilt University graduate, Cambridge joins the Belmont program following an illustrious playing career in the highly-touted Southeastern Conference and a year of coaching at her high school alma mater, the Ensworth School. “We are excited to welcome Jordyn to our staff at Belmont,” spoke coach Brooks. “She had a standout career as a player at Ensworth and Vanderbilt, and I’ve had the privilege of getting to know her through watching her compete and seeing her overcome numerous injury challenges during her playing days. Jordyn is extremely smart, and she was a great teammate and leader. I’m most excited about Jordyn being a great mentor and role model for our Belmont players as she has always competed with character, integrity and toughness. Our fans will love getting to know Jordyn this season.” A three-time All-SEC Defensive Team selection and two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member, Cambridge is Vanderbilt’s all-time steals leader with 351 career takeaways. The Nashville native ranks seventh all-time in SEC history in steals and set the Commodores’ single-season steals record as a senior in 2021-22 with 129. During her six-year Vanderbilt career, Cambridge was a Naismith Defensive Player of the Year semifinalist (2023-24) and 1,000-point scorer. In fact, she is the only Commodore to ever amass over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists and 300 steals. Her 438 career assists rank in Vanderbilt’s top 10 and she became just the second Commodore to earn six letters. Cambridge finished with 1,037 career points and was third in the nation in steals (117) in her final season in 2023-24. After receiving her second master’s degree at Vanderbilt, Cambridge served as an assistant coach and program coordinator in the office of community engagement and inclusion (CEI) at Ensworth during the 2024-25 school year. In her roles, Cambridge worked with prep players, scouted opponents, and facilitated schedules for guest speakers, performers and community outreach programming, while engaging regularly with students, faculty and staff to ensure an inclusive school community. Before her storied collegiate career, Cambridge led Ensworth to a 25-4 record and a Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Division II Class AA state championship as a junior. The floor general was ranked as the 23rd overall prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz and was the fourth-ranked guard in the nation in the 2018 class. Named Division II Class AA state championship MVP, Cambridge was a three-time Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Division II All-State performer. Cambridge earned her Bachelor of Science degree in human and organizational development in 2022, before graduating with her first Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in human development studies in 2023. She then added a second M.Ed. degree in learning diversity and urban studies in May of 2024. One of nine, five of Jordyn’s eight siblings have played or currently play college basketball, including three of her five brothers (Jalon, Desmond and Devan) and two of her three sisters (Kennedy and Jaloni). Cambridge joins the Bruins at an exciting time as Belmont is coming off its deepest national postseason run in program history. The Bruins reached the 2025 Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) championship game in April and Belmont is one of only nine schools in the country to have won 20-plus games for 10 consecutive seasons.Courtesy of: belmontbruins.com
