NCAA Flags Max Air as Most Unresponsive Domestic Airline, Probes Threat Allegations
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has identified Max Air as the most unresponsive domestic airline to passenger complaints, according to recent data from its Consumer Protection Department (CPD). The authority also disclosed it is investigating allegations that the airline has issued threats to travel agencies that reported incidents to the regulator.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, revealed the findings in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. “According to NCAA data, Max Air has been the most unresponsive domestic airline per passenger complaints and determinations by the NCAA CPD,” Achimugu stated. “In some cases, there have been allegations of threats to travel agencies for daring to report to the CAA. This will be put to a stop immediately.”
In a related development, Achimugu also raised concerns about the conduct of Air Côte d’Ivoire, the Ivorian national carrier, accusing the airline of cancelling scheduled flights on days when passenger turnout is low. He claimed the airline merges bookings from different days to meet desired passenger thresholds, a practice he said is under review.
While affirming NCAA’s support for all airlines, Achimugu emphasised that regulatory compliance is non-negotiable. “We understand that disruptions happen. But adherence to civil aviation regulations is not a choice of convenience. Both cases will be handled expeditiously by the NCAA,” he said.
