In a Paycom Center decked out entirely in blue for the occasion, the slightest spectator who didn’t respect the color code didn’t go unnoticed. One of them in particular caught the attention of Thunder fans this Thursday, during Game 2 of the series pitting the franchise against the Timberwolves. It has to be said that this intruder wasn’t just anyone, as it was… Chris Paul.

Cheered on by the OKC crowd for his honorable stint with the team, Chris Paul was therefore spotted by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. His place in the front row also made the latter tick. The new MVP indeed admitted later in a press conference:

It was great to have him there. It surprised me. I was like, “What’s this guy doing next to my wife?!” It made me a little tense, but when I saw it was Chris, I was reassured.

The Point God’s teammate for a season, Shai didn’t forget to pay tribute to him and thanked him for his positive influence:

He’s been great for me. Not only as a big brother and mentor, but also as a friend. He was the first guy I got close to in my career who had accomplished the things I wanted to accomplish.

I can always ask him for advice, and not just about basketball. It can be on the business side, on physical recovery, on the family side… His help has really been invaluable to me.

Speaking to ESPN just before the match, CP3 took the opportunity to reveal the true nature of his young disciple:

To tell you the truth, Shai is a pretty straightforward person. He’s funny, too, and he talks a lot. I know he comes across as very humble and all that, but he talks a lot. But he’s simple in his work ethic. He either shops – he stores all day – or he watches basketball. He’s also very attached to his family and I respect him for that.
