NBA Takes Disciplinary Action Against Edwards and Bane
NBA All-Star Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been fined $25,000 for forcefully throwing a game ball into the stands, an incident that reportedly hit an arena staff member. Orlando Magic's Desmond Bane received a similar $25,000 fine for a comparable action following his team's win.
Anthony Edwards has been fined $25,000 by the NBA after throwing a game ball forcefully into the stands during halftime of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.
The incident occurred as the halftime buzzer sounded following a missed Portland shot.
Edwards grabbed the loose ball and launched it the length of the court toward the opposite basket.
League-released footage showed the ball appearing to hit an arena staff member in the head.
This fine adds to Edwards’ history of league discipline.
Last season alone, he accumulated $420,000 in fines across eight separate incidents — most tied to profane language during postgame interviews.
In another previous episode, he was fined $35,000 for failing to leave the court promptly and throwing a ball into the stands after being ejected.
In a separate case announced the same week, Desmond Bane of the Orlando Magic was also fined $25,000 for throwing a ball into the stands.
Bane’s incident happened at the end of Orlando’s 110–109 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
The NBA continues to enforce strict policies regarding player conduct involving fans and arena personnel, particularly when actions could pose safety risks.
