NBA Drops the Hammer: Edwards and Bane Fined for Courtroom Antics

Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for an incident involving him throwing a game ball with force into the spectator stands. The league made the announcement on Thursday, following the incident that occurred during halftime of Minnesota's victory against Portland on Tuesday.

As the buzzer sounded after a missed shot by the Trail Blazers, Edwards picked up the loose ball and threw it the length of the floor towards the opposite basket. Video released by the NBA indicated that the ball appeared to strike an arena staff member in the head.

This is not Edwards' first brush with league penalties; he accumulated a total of $420,000 in fines from the NBA last season. These previous fines stemmed from eight different transgressions, predominantly for using profane language during postgame interviews. One notable prior incident also involved a $35,000 fine for failing to leave the court in a timely manner and throwing a ball into the stands after being ejected from a game.

In a separate but similar incident, Orlando Magic guard Desmond Bane also received a $25,000 fine from the NBA for throwing a game ball with force into the stands. Bane's incident took place at the conclusion of Orlando's narrow 110-109 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
