NASCAR Social Media Accounts Were Hacked On Tuesday
It hasn't been a great couple of weeks for the sport of NASCAR when it comes to hacking.
Not long after officials radios were hacked into during the Ambetter Health 400 in Atlanta, the company's social media accounts recently came under attack by a crypto scammer.
"Introducing $NASCAR Token — the official digital asset of motorsports, built on Solana to enhance fan engagement, rewards, and exclusive experiences," a fake release said in the since-deleted post. "Fast. Secure. The future of NASCAR."
NASCAR moved quickly to take the post down but fans still caught wind of it — even if it didn't pass the sniff test for a lot of folks.
"It's got a be a hack," one user pointed out on X. "The contract address looks sketchy, and they call it 'the official digital asset of motorsports,' not NASCAR. Also, marketing folks love to capitalize slogans, so each of those words should be capital letters."
NASCAR wasn't alone in the attacks either, the NBA also got bombarded by hackers earlier today — sharing a similarly fake announcement about: "a groundbreaking digital asset designed to redefine fan engagement, transactions and experiences within the basketball ecosystem."
"Built on the Solana blockchain, NBA Coin offers lighting-fast transactions, unparalleled security and seamless integration into the Web3 landscape," the meme-coin statement read.
"By leveraging blockchain technology, the NBA continues its commitment to innovations, bringing fans closer to the game they love in new and exciting ways."
It's not clear at this time who was behind the stunts, but their content was shared with millions of followers across both of the organizations' various platforms.
