Napoli held by Parma but keep lead over Inter in Serie A title race | Flashscore.co.uk

Published 20 hours ago2 minute read

Napoli extended their unbeaten Serie A run to 11 games with a 0-0 draw at Parma, which coincided with Inter Milan’s 2-2 draw at home to SS Lazio, meaning a second Scudetto in three seasons is still in their own hands heading into the final round of fixtures.

Ange-Yoan Bonny gave Napoli an early scare when he cut inside and bent his shot towards the top corner, but Alex Meret was on hand to stop it.

The ball was then with Matteo Politano down the other end, but Zion Suzuki was also equal to his effort after he too cut inside.

Soon after, Meret produced a better save to deny Simon Sohm, tipping his fierce strike over.

The first half would end goalless, with Frank Anguissa coming closest for either side after he followed up some lovely skill with a volley that agonisingly struck the post. After HT, Meret was called into action again immediately in the second half, as he had to divert Sohm’s long-range strike away from goal. As in the first period, it was end to end, with Politano clipping the crossbar from what was meant to be a cross.

With just 20 minutes left and knowing Inter were beating Lazio, Napoli were looking for inspiration, and they almost got it through Scott McTominay as his free-kick was wonderfully saved by Suzuki.

There was also drama at the very end, when Napoli were awarded a penalty, but to Parma and Inter’s relief, the decision was overturned for a foul in the build-up.

In the end, both teams will be content with a point, as Parma remain above the relegation zone after avoiding a fourth straight H2H defeat. Meanwhile, Napoli’s hopes of winning the title remain alive, as both have their fate in their own hands with the final day looming.
