NAF airstrikes decimate bandit convoy in Kebbi-Zamfara axis
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has neutralised scores of armed bandits during a coordinated air offensive conducted under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
The targeted airstrikes, carried out on July 9, 2025, struck a large convoy of armed terrorists migrating along the Kebbi–Zamfara axis.
The operation was confirmed in a statement signed by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters.
According to the statement, the precision strikes were launched based on credible real-time intelligence that revealed the movement of about 150 motorcycles, with each reportedly carrying at least two armed bandits.
The convoy was tracked near Yarbuga in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
“After positive identification confirmed the hostile nature of the convoy, NAF aircraft engaged the targets with devastating accuracy.
“Survivors were seen fleeing on foot and motorcycles, but persistent overwatch and follow-up strikes effectively disrupted their escape and withdrawal routes,” the statement said.
It added that the success of the air mission was further reinforced by a ground exploitation operation the following day, July 10, 2025.
“Nigerian Army troops deployed to Yarbuga village confirmed the aftermath of the airstrike, recovering the remains of numerous terrorists, their weapons, and several charred motorcycles used in the attempted migration.
“The air–ground synergy represents a growing trend in Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts, where joint operations are delivering heavier blows to armed groups.
“The Kebbi–Zamfara corridor has long served as a route for bandits fleeing security pressure or attempting to regroup across state lines,” the statement said.
The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its commitment to supporting ground operations, protecting civilian populations, and denying terrorists any haven within Nigeria’s airspace or terrain.
“These operations are not just about eliminating threats but also about restoring confidence in state authority and enabling displaced communities to return to normal life,” the statement added.
