Lodge was a former UN employee who had lost his wife of many years and was still grieving.

He later met another woman from Kenya, identified as Mary, and they had a relationship for some time.

Mary suddenly quit the relationship, saying that she had landed a job in Sudan.

She then asked to introduce another woman to him so they could get into a relationship, and that is how Lodge met Anita, and they started an online relationship in earnest.

"I worked in UN for 15 years and would go to Kenya from time to time. I was based in Kenya in the 90s. I later retired and met Mary through friends; I thought she was going to be part of my life," he said.
"Mary later introduced me to Anita and told me she had a beauty businesses that had hired over 30 people. Within three or four months, we had gone further and had started to think of marriage," he said.

In December 2023, Lodge was in Kenya, and he had to put up with friends, as Anita was nowhere to be seen, and there was also no evidence of the house she had said that she was building for them either.

Lodge also spent a lot of time with friends, but it was not until May 2024, that he started realising that something was amiss.

Friends of Lodge were concerned about him sending a lot of money home and warned him about it. His bank also warned him about it, but he was in love.

"I sent the KSh 14.9million over one year. The last one was when she called saying that her dad was in hospital and I asked my friends in Kenya who they said there was no one like Anita where they checked," he said.

By that time, he had sold the house and spent the rest of his money on Airbnbs, so he did not have the money to return home.

His friends in aviation helped him return home, but there, only his pension helps him, and he now lives from month to month.

"He ignored warnings from his friends and the bank, which is more than most ppl in his situation get, yet he continued to transfer his own money. How many warnings does a person need."

@Sheik2791:

"He was vunerable his wife died. People's mental health suffers as a result of grief and judgement is impaired, have some compassion. He is brave for sharing his story and trying to help others ❤."

@amandahunter4034:

"It's a pity this happened to him, but one of the first red flags in a new relationship is when your partner asks you for money."

@lynnm.lundgren-marbell2191:

"There was no woman. His friend didn't find him and new girlfriend, It was her all along."

@AlphamanKing:

"I feel so sorry for the old gentleman. May he find peace and recover financially."
