IRON MOUNTAIN — “Give My Regards to Broadway” will be the theme as the Dickinson County Community Chorus performs its Music Under the Stars concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lake Antoine Park Band Shell.
“We have planned an outstanding selection of music that will be exciting for singers and audience alike,” said Crystal Hogan, principal conductor. “The program will include many Broadway songs as well as patriotic and gospel selections. The songs are catchy and familiar and will invite you to hum and sing along.”
“Give My Regards to Broadway: A Musical Theatre Variety Show” will also feature various small ensembles, along with the children’s chorus performing selections from old musicals to more current shows.
Dawn Kranz and Jeremiah Garrigues-Cortelyou will be assistant and ensemble conductors, with Kranz also conducting the children’s chorus. Emcees are Kaye Miziniak and Teddy Izzo.
The chorus this summer is 78 strong, plus the children’s chorus of 15. Along with the chorus, various small ensembles and the children’s chorus will perform selections ranging from the old musicals to the more current shows. Featured soloists are Tanya Pollard, Curt Rogan, Jewel Nord, Haliauna Kusmitch and Ellie Pineda.
Instrumentalists include Mary Lee and Sandy Sullivan, piano; Josh March, bass; Lorna March, drums; Jason Ocasio, guitar; Theresa Ozzello, flute; Clara Anderson and George Guffey, trumpet; Logan Smith, tenor saxophone; and Serenity Steinke, trombone.
When they are not singing on stage, the children’s chorus will walk through the crowd to sell popcorn and water. The concession donations will go to the Lake Antoine Park Partnership as well as The Children’s Museum in Iron Mountain. A total of $500 in matching funds has already been donated by The Ice Cream Barn, Storheims Family Restaurant and DCCC members. They hope those attending will give generously to these worthy causes.
For more information and updates, go to the DCCC website at http://www.communitychorus.org. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be at 7:15 p.m. at Kingsford High School on Hamilton Avenue in Kingsford.
The program also will be available to view on the DCCC website at http://www.communitychorus.org.
DCCC gave special thanks to the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford for use of the facilities for rehearsals. They would also like to thank the chorus sponsors. The recent donations have afforded them new risers for their performances at Lake Antoine, a sound system for the parade float and a cushion for operating expenses.
Sponsors include — Golden Notes: M.J. Electric, Kenneth James Salon, Dr. Jon Erickson, IME/Human Relief Fund/J.M. Hogan and anonymous donors; Silver Notes: Blue Grass Community Foundation, Pleasant View Orchard, Gudowicz Stoney Ridge Restaurant/BP, Marathon/Grocery and LP; Bronze Notes: Dawn Kranz Music Studio, Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women’s Club (GFWC), Lake Antoine Park Partners, Major 10th School of Music, Ralph and Barb Kramer, Clark and Joanne Reid, and David and Grace Gorringe.
