Mr. Worldwide's Roots: Pitbull to Transform Childhood Home into Mr. 305 Empire

Internationally renowned Cuban-American hitmaker Pitbull, also known as Mr. Worldwide, is moving to solidify his deep roots in Miami by establishing a corporate headquarters on the very block where he spent his childhood. Plans have been filed to demolish one of his former childhood homes in Miami’s vibrant Wynwood neighborhood to make way for an eight-story office building that will serve as the new home for his Mr. 305 music company.

The proposed development at 25 Northeast 28th Street involves replacing a modest 700-square-foot, two-bedroom house built in 1927, situated on a small lot, with a substantial 11,200-square-foot office tower. According to documents submitted to a Miami projects review board, the new structure will feature nearly 9,700 square feet of dedicated workspace. This initiative marks a profound full-circle moment for the artist, who has consistently championed his "305" identity and spoken openly about his upbringing in Wynwood, long before its transformation into one of the nation's most coveted creative districts.

Pitbull himself reflected on this transformation at a 2020 event just a few blocks from the proposed site, stating, "I used to live in Wynwood when they didn’t sell art. They sold coke, crack and heroin, so to be able to perform… I used to stay right up the block when nobody believed in me, so to be on this stage is definitely an honor. From 28th Street and N. Miami Ave to be right here, it’s a beautiful thing." This sentiment underscores the personal significance of the location for the artist.

The development is being spearheaded by the Brickell-based Rilea Group. Luis Ojeda, a project executive with the firm, expressed honor in being selected by "Mr. 305 himself, Pitbull," and affirmed the deeply personal connection Pitbull has to the property. Ojeda added, "Given the personal significance of the site, we are approaching the opportunity with care and look forward to thoughtfully bringing new life to the property as part of Wynwood’s continued evolution."

The establishment of the Mr. 305 headquarters is the latest expansion in Pitbull's burgeoning Miami-based business empire, which now reaches far beyond the music industry. In 2013, he founded his first SLAM! tuition-free charter school in Little Havana. Last year, Miami commissioners controversially approved a no-bid agreement to transfer ownership of the historic Olympia Theater in downtown Miami for a mere $10 to a charter school co-founded by Pitbull, with ambitious plans for a $77 million renovation of the venue.

Demonstrating his broad entrepreneurial spirit, Pitbull also made college sports history in 2024 by securing the naming rights to Florida International University's (FIU) football stadium in a five-year, $6 million deal. This made him the first musician ever to have a stadium bear their name in college athletics. At the time, Pitbull told ESPN, "This is history in the making. I’m from the crib. I’m 305. I’m from the bottom. This is my backyard." His ventures further include co-ownership of the Trackhouse Racing NASCAR team and a recent residency at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas earlier this year, highlighting his diverse portfolio and unwavering commitment to his roots and community.
