Amman, July 7 (Petra) -- The Amman Public Prosecutor on Monday accepted a bail request for MP Hassan Riyati, ordering his release on bail after his detention over a case involving a previously undeclared office of the banned Muslim Brotherhood in Aqaba.
Earlier in the day, the prosecutor interrogated Riyati and ordered his detention with a travel ban, pending further investigation, a source told Jordan News Agency (Petra).
On Friday, Riyati and several other individuals entered an Aqaba property, which turned out to have belonged to the banned Muslim Brotherhood group, ripped up documents and filled them in black bags to dispose on them.
Security bodies seized the documents destroyed and blocked an attempt to smuggle additional papers and materials out of the premises. A further search uncovered more documents and items of the group.
During interrogation, the prosecutor asked the MP about his posting false information on social media alleging the Public Prosecution had released detainees, who in fact were witnesses, along with other statements and information he made in the case.
