Morayo Afolabi-Brown Opens MAB Studio, Giving Nigerians a Space to Speak
Morayo Afolabi-Brown, popularly known as “Queen of Talk”, spent more than a decade anchoring one of Nigeria’s most watched television conversations. When she left TVC in August 2025, the move closed a significant chapter in broadcast journalism, even though it was done without public fanfare. What was less visible at the time was the work happening behind the scenes.
That work comes into view this Thursday with “the launch of The Morayo Show.” The programme represents a shift from institutional television to an independent platform focused on public dialogue and participation.
Morayo Afolabi-Brown formally opened MAB Studio in Oregun, Ikeja, using the occasion to restate the central idea behind The Morayo Show: creating a space where everyday Nigerians can speak openly about the issues shaping their lives.
Introducing the Launch event
Distinguished guests were recognized and welcomed, including Mrs Joke Silva, Mrs Ibukun Awosika, DGM Akande Temitope, Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo, Pastor Charles. Key media figures, including Mr Kayode Akintemi, Editor-in-Chief of News Central Television, and other reputable industry figures were present. Their presence highlighted the industry support for the initiative, while journalists and media personnel formed the audience, documenting the proceedings.
Afolabi-Brown came on stage to deliver the welcome address that set the tone for the rest of the programme. She blessed the Lord as she referred to him as her Source and Strength. She spoke at length about why the space exists and what it is meant to hold.
She explained that “The Morayo Show” was built around the need to listen, not only to experts or public figures, but to ordinary people whose views are often missing from national conversations. According to her, the studio was created to give Nigerians a place to speak freely, share their experiences, and talk through issues without pressure or framing.
In her remarks, Afolabi-Brown spoke about the journey of the establishment of the mab studio. She said the growth of the team and the eventual decision to establish a studio were driven by clarity of purpose, not ambition for scale. As the vision became clearer, she noted, people aligned naturally with it.
She also referenced a leadership conference she attended in Dubai, where business leader Ibukun Awosika made a statement that stayed with her.
‘’If the dream doesn't scare you, it is not big enough’’
This challenged me to think beyond comfort and commit fully to what I believed the show could become. That moment helped shape the decision to invest in a space that would support the work long-term.- Morayo said.
During the conference, she came out to talk about her dream and humbled herself to say she needed investors and she got seven (7) persons and four (4) other persons later on. She was grateful to God for the conference.
Afolabi-Brown went on to outline the structure of The Morayo Show, describing its three main segments.
The first is the “Hot topics segment”, happenings among Nigerians, including discussions that trend online.
The second draws from conversations on “Human Interest-issue” that focuses on current issues affecting individuals and proffering solutions.
The third is “the standard segment” where guests will be invited and interviewed.
“This show is like bringing X formerly twitter on live, my aim is to hear directly from people and allow them to express their views in their own words. - She said”
Following her address, a short preview of the upcoming show was screened. The clip offered a glimpse into the kind of conversations the show intends to host, touching on social concerns and shared experiences rather than political positioning. The preview reinforced the show’s emphasis on listening and open dialogue.
A keynote address and remarks from partner stations followed, alongside goodwill messages from friends and family. During this part of the programme, Morayo extended appreciation to supporters and sponsors that contributed to the establishment of the studio Project. A request for continued support and collaboration was also made.
In line with what had been discussed earlier, the facilities within MAB Studio were introduced as tools meant to serve conversation rather than dominate it. The studio includes;
20 x 40 recording studio with digital screens and professional lighting
Fully equipped control room with Pro Tools and digital displays
HD broadcast cameras
Audio post-production suites with industry-standard software and plug-ins
On-site makeup and wardrobe facilities
Spacious and secure parking
The MAB studio is open for rent as it is designed to host different events ideal for talk shows, Private movie screenings, Album launches, Children content production, podcasts, brand activations, private birthday parties and other creative events, and is open for use beyond The Morayo Show. For enquiries and bookings contact 08033335617.
The formal programme concluded with the ribbon cutting, group photographs and closing remarks, after which guests were taken on a guided tour of the facility.
Conversations continued during refreshments and networking, with attendees moving through the studio spaces and engaging with members of the production team.
By the end of the event, the message had been made clear. MAB Studio is not positioned as a symbol of scale or prestige. It is intended as a working space, one built to hold conversations, reflect lived experiences, and allow Nigerians to speak plainly about what they see, feel and live through. Afolabi-Brown said, the goal remains simple: to listen.
