Momentic Raises $15M to Automate Software Testing with AI Innovation

Momentic, an artificial intelligence testing startup, has successfully secured $15 million in a Series A funding round, demonstrating growing investor confidence in AI-driven solutions for software development. This significant investment was spearheaded by Standard Capital, with additional participation from notable investors including Dropbox Ventures, Y Combinator, FCVC, Transpose Platform, and Karman Ventures. This new capital injection follows a previous $3.7 million seed round, which the company announced in March.

The core of Momentic's offering lies in its innovative tools for software testing and verification, a critical yet often overlooked aspect of software development. While the niche is traditionally dominated by complex open-source frameworks like Playwright and Selenium, Momentic aims to revolutionize the process by leveraging AI to make testing both simple and highly effective. Co-founder Wei-Wei Wu explained the company's value proposition, stating, “We help our customers make sure their product works. They can describe their critical user flows in plain English and our AI will automate it.”

Co-founders Wei-Wei Wu and Jeff An bring extensive experience in developer tooling from their time at companies such as Qualtrics and WeWork. Wu, particularly proud of his contributions to the open-source Node.js project, consistently observed the persistent challenge of code verification across various organizations. He emphasized, “Testing has been the biggest pain point for every team I’ve ever worked with.”

Momentic’s AI-driven methodology has already garnered a substantial user base, boasting 2,600 users from a diverse range of clients including prominent companies like Notion, Xero, Bilt, Webflow, and Retool. Although specific revenue and profitability figures were not disclosed, the company's substantial growth has been compelling enough to attract significant investor interest. A key advantage of Momentic's automated testing approach is its ability to operate at an unprecedented scale, allowing for a far greater volume of tests than previously possible. Wu estimated that in the last month alone, Momentic's technology automated over 200 million test steps.

Looking ahead, Momentic faces competition not only from existing frameworks but also from increasingly sophisticated foundation models offered by tech giants like OpenAI and Anthropic, which provide tutorials on agentic testing using their advanced computer use capabilities. As these models evolve, the landscape for enterprise SaaS companies like Momentic could shift. Nonetheless, Wu is focused on enhancing Momentic's product with the new funding, having already launched support for mobile environments in August. The company plans to expand its engineering team to develop more sophisticated test-case management functionalities.

Wu foresees a future where the rise of automated coding will lead to a proliferation of new applications, subsequently increasing the demand for robust testing solutions. He concluded, “All of these apps need testing. They care about quality, and we’re going to provide it for them.”
