Molly-Mae Hague's Shocking Revelation: Death Threats Follow 'Tone Deaf' Comment

Reality TV star and influencer Molly-Mae Hague has candidly addressed the significant backlash she received following controversial comments made in 2022, revealing that a statement about everyone having "the same 24 hours in a day" led to a torrent of "hateful comments" and even "death threats." The 26-year-old businesswoman, who rose to fame on ITV's Love Island, discusses this difficult period in the second series of her show, Molly-Mae: Behind It All.
The controversy first erupted after her appearance on a 2022 episode of the Diary Of A CEO podcast, where her remarks about time and success were widely criticized. Further uproar ensued from a YouTube video in which Hague claimed she hadn't "done one social fun thing" over the summer, despite fans quickly pointing out her documented trips to Dubai and Wimbledon. In her Prime Video series, she admits her frustration with herself for these statements, acknowledging, "I can completely understand why people had a problem with what I said."
Hague expressed profound regret and embarrassment over the incidents. "I get really frustrated with myself when I've said something that I think I could have worded better. I hate letting people down," she explained, adding that she tried her best to "put on a brave face and look and act professional." Reflecting on the "24 hours scandal," she confessed, "I have never spoken about that 24 hours scandal. I was so disappointed in myself that I'd made that mistake." She further stated that she has since "accepted and realised" that what she said "was wrong," feeling a need to "hold my hands up" for upsetting so many people.
The intensity of the public reaction deeply affected Hague. She recounted the "wild" and "shocking" nature of the messages she received, questioning, "To get so angry and to leave such hateful comments, send death threats, like, who's got that level of anger inside of them?" The brief excerpt from her podcast interview went viral on Twitter (now X), where users branded her "tone deaf" and "Thatcherite."
At the time, Hague's representatives issued a statement to clarify the context of her remarks. They explained that the interview segment was "discussing time efficiency relating to success," and that Molly was referencing a quote: "We all have the same 24 hours in a day as Beyonce." The statement emphasized that she was discussing her own experiences and how her belief in working hard to achieve goals keeps her determined, explicitly stating that "Molly is not commenting on anyone else's life or personal situation. She can only speak of her own experience."
The first three installments of Molly-Mae: Behind It All series two premiered exclusively on Prime Video on October 18, with the remaining three episodes scheduled for release in early 2026.
