Mohbad Family Drama Deepens: Widow Faces Surname Demand, DNA Test Ultimatum!

The family of late Nigerian music star Mohbad has issued firm directives to his widow, Wunmi, ordering her to stop using the Aloba surname until a court-mandated DNA test determines the true paternity of her son, Liam. According to the family, this measure is rooted in a commitment to justice and transparency surrounding the late singer’s legacy, a development recently spotlighted by outlets such as The Guardian Nigeria.
In a joint statement signed by Adedara Aloba, the head of the Aloba family, and Joseph Aloba, a key family member, the clan emphasized that these directives are part of broader efforts to ensure accountability in overseeing Mohbad’s estate. As part of this restructuring, the family appointed three administrators—Samuel Ajewole Aloba, Engr. Ayodele Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Mrs. Alonge Ibukun Oluwaseun Aloba to lawfully manage Mohbad’s assets, including royalties, bank holdings, and intellectual property. The family also disclosed that Wunmi may be considered for an administrative role if the DNA results confirm Liam’s biological ties, a process widely discussed in reports from Channels TV.
The family further asserted that no statutory or customary marriage occurred between Mohbad and Wunmi. They highlighted that critical Yoruba marriage rites, particularly the payment of bride price—were never completed, thus voiding any formal marital status under traditional law. This position aligns with multiple earlier claims documented in Nigerian media, including reports by Premium Times.
On matters of legal representation, the family appointed Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq., of Ogungbe & Ogungbe Attorneys, as their exclusive legal counsel for all issues related to the DNA test and estate administration. Meanwhile, Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, will continue coordinating with investigators probing the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death, ensuring both legal tracks remain active and coordinated.
The Aloba family concluded by noting that a new burial date and a detailed memorial plan for Mohbad will be announced after all legal and internal deliberations linked to the DNA matter are firmly settled. Their statement underscores a desire for due diligence, respect, and ultimate closure as they navigate a deeply emotional chapter in the late singer’s legacy.
