Miracle in Kano: Police Safely Rescue Abducted 9-Year-Old After Month-Long Ordeal
Kano State Police have successfully rescued 9-year-old Ubaiyu Muhammad Sammani after nearly four weeks in captivity, arresting ten suspects. The boy was recovered unharmed, and the kidnappers had demanded a $30,000 ransom. Police vow to combat kidnapping through proactive policing and public cooperation.The Kano State Police Command has successfully rescued a 9-year-old boy, Ubaiyu Muhammad Sammani, who had been held captive for nearly four weeks. The rescue operation, which saw the boy recovered unharmed from Rimin Kebbe Quarters, Kano, also led to the arrest of ten suspects, comprising nine men and one woman, in connection with the abduction.
According to CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s Public Relations Officer, the kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of $30,000 for the release of young Ubaiyu. The arduous rescue mission was spearheaded by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, operating under the direct supervision of Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. This success was attributed to sustained surveillance efforts and intelligence-led policing strategies employed by the command.
The actual rescue took place on July 31 at Karshen Kwalta, Rimin Kebbe, Ungogo LGA, specifically behind the residence of the principal suspect. This individual, identified as Abubakar Salihu, alias Sankolo, 25, remains at large despite the arrests. Preliminary investigations have shed light on the intricate network of the abductors, revealing that the ten arrested suspects played diverse roles in the crime. These roles included unlawful trespass, holding the victim captive, communicating the ransom demands to the family, and facilitating the movement of the abducted boy across various locations during his captivity.
Following his rescue, Ubaiyu Muhammad Sammani underwent comprehensive medical checks at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, where he was fortunately confirmed to be safe and in good health. The police have stated their intention to charge the arrested suspects to court once the ongoing investigations are thoroughly completed.
CP Bakori lauded the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for their exceptional professionalism and dedication throughout the operation. He also took the opportunity to reassure the residents of Kano State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes. This commitment, he emphasized, would be realized through a combination of proactive policing initiatives and strong community partnerships.
