Miley Cyrus Eyes Oscar Spotlight & New Gigs After 'Avatar' Soundtrack Score

Pop icon Miley Cyrus, at 33, has established a distinctive and highly effective method for securing coveted soundtrack opportunities in Hollywood. Rather than relying on traditional intermediaries, Cyrus directly pitches herself to directors and producers by strategically attending industry events where they congregate.

A prime example of her success is the dramatic end credits song “Dream As One” for James Cameron’s new film, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” which debuted on December 19. The movie has already achieved significant box office success, raking in nearly $220 million in the U.S. and over $760 million globally. Speaking to People magazine, Cyrus explained that the “Avatar” collaboration emerged organically after she met Cameron at the 2024 D23 Expo, where both were honored as Disney Legends. Knowing Cameron’s long-standing involvement with the “Avatar” franchise, she subtly reminded him of her availability for movie music, perfectly aligning with his development of the third installment in the five-movie series. Cameron affectionately refers to them as “Legends in law,” a testament to their connection.

This direct approach also proved successful in landing her Golden Globe-nominated song “Beautiful That Way” for the Pam Anderson drama “The Last Showgirl” last year. For that project, Cyrus approached the movie’s co-star, Jamie Lee Curtis, directly. This strategy highlights her belief in cutting out the middleman to secure soundtrack gigs efficiently.

Cyrus continues to employ this method, revealing that her attendance at the 2025 Oscars was specifically to offer her musical services. She proactively told everyone who introduced themselves, “Well, if you need any music, I’m around.” Her willingness to pitch her talents extends even to shows with uncertain futures, as she jokingly offered her services for a potential “Baby Reindeer” season two, demonstrating her consistent and proactive engagement with the entertainment industry.
