Middle East Conflict Intensifies: South Africans Advised to Flee on Limited Flights

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) has issued an urgent advisory to over 6,400 South African citizens in the Middle East, urging them to evacuate the region. This directive comes amidst escalating attacks and widespread regional instability, with ongoing military action posing significant risks. As of Wednesday, March 4, Dirco noted a substantial increase in registrations on its Travel Smart system, confirming the presence of more than 6,400 South African citizens in the affected areas.

Dirco has strongly advised citizens currently in the Middle East for non-essential travel to take immediate advantage of the resumption of limited commercial flights. This proactive measure is deemed essential for preparing an exit from danger zones as soon as safe passage can be secured. The department emphasized that several airlines have restarted limited commercial services out of the region, and citizens are urged to utilize this opportunity to leave without delay, as heavy attacks are regrettably expected to continue.
