The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has officially confirmed Michael Kpakpo Allotey as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Greater Accra Region.

His appointment was unanimously endorsed by Assembly Members during a Special General Assembly Meeting held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Accra City Hall.

Allotey secured all 30 valid votes cast in the election conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC), achieving a 100 percent endorsement, well above the two-thirds threshold required under Section 20 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

According to graphic.com.gh, both the election and his confirmation created a charged atmosphere with jubilation, drumming, and celebration, reflecting a strong sense of unity and support.

The event was attended by Assembly Members, government officials, party executives, traditional leaders, and residents of the capital city.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo who supervised the election in her remarks, urged Assembly Members to put partisan considerations aside and work together in the interest of all Ghanaians.

“This is the centre of Greater Accra,” she stated, calling on members to uphold their constitutional mandate and support the President’s nominee for the good of the metropolis.

Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who officially succeeds Elizabeth KT Sackey as Chief Executive Officer, expressed gratitude in his acceptance speech.

He thanked God and conveyed deep appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for entrusting him with the role.

He said, “I thank the President for entrusting me, a young man from North Kaneshie, with this responsibility. It is an honour I do not take lightly.”

He also commended his predecessors for their contributions and pledged to build on their achievements, ensuring continued progress and development, saying, “I now hold the baton as Mayor of Accra. My predecessor has done her part, but today, it’s my turn. If I have any misunderstandings, I can seek advice from the many who have come before me, so there is no window for failure,” he said.
