As the Red Sox approach the trade deadline, there are a few different ways they could go, and with the rumors surrounding Jarren Duran, when there’s smoke, there’s typically fire.

However, it isn’t likely that Duran will be traded, according to The Athletic. They added, however, that if he does, the New York Mets could be a team that makes sense.

“To be clear: There’s little reason for Boston to even entertain offers for Duran unless the return is substantial. His production has predictably fallen short of his 2024 breakout, but Duran remains a solidly above-average hitter with lots of speed and the ability to play center field.

“Perhaps most importantly, he’s under team control through 2028, making him a player that teams can build around. Of course, even with a sudden influx of stud prospects joining the lineup, the Red Sox could continue to build around him, too. The Padres have already been linked to Duran and surely they won’t be alone,” they wrote.

The Mets are in a much better position than the Red Sox right now, and the expectation around the league is for New York to be a buyer. Unless something changes, the Mets are expected to have an opportunity to win a World Series.

While Duran has struggled a bit this season, he was one of the better outfielders in baseball a year ago, and would be helpful for a Mets team that’s been banged up in the outfield.

He’s also been great this month, hitting .367 with a 1.154 OPS.

The Red Sox are 8-2 over their last 10…

Duran has been a big part of that.
