Met Gala 2026 Extravaganza: Venus Williams, Beyoncé, & More Dazzle in Art-Inspired Fashion!

The 2026 Met Gala transformed the Metropolitan Museum of Art into a magnificent gallery, with attendees meticulously interpreting the exhibition's theme, “Costume Art,” and the evening's dress code, “Fashion Is Art.” Co-chaired by luminaries such as Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour, the event transcended traditional red-carpet glamour, compelling guests to present their garments as genuine sculptures and gallery-worthy installations. From classic painting homages to avant-garde techno-creations, the gala served as a masterclass in the profound merger of personal identity and high fashion.
Co-Chair Venus Williams made a significant statement, arriving in a floor-length black sequin mermaid gown. Its sleeveless silhouette gracefully showcased her athletic physique. The ensemble’s focal point was a breathtaking Swarovski couture piece—a sweeping silver construction of cascading chains across her chest and shoulders. This wearable art, crafted by Global Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert, was inspired by the iconic Wimbledon Rosewater Dish and symbolized Venus’s cultural impact through a study of creation, identity, and savoir-faire. Her hair, styled by JAWARA, was an elegant high braided updo, complementing makeup by Karina Milan, with Ronald Burton III styling the overall vision. Venus expressed her immense honor in co-chairing, acknowledging fashion's vital role in her self-expression both on and off the court. Beside her, husband Andrea Preti provided a sharp contrast in a classic black tuxedo, accented with a deep burgundy bow tie, matching pocket square, and a striking silver feather brooch, marking one of their most significant public appearances since their 2025 marriage.
Fellow Co-Chair Beyoncé chose a custom Olivier Rousteing creation that exuded a celestial and anatomical aesthetic. Her dazzling gown featured a diamond-encrusted silver skeleton design that meticulously followed the natural contours of her body. The look was dramatically framed by a matching spiked headpiece and an expansive, multi-toned feathered train that billowed regally, transforming her into an ethereal installation as she moved.
Coco Jones graced the event in a custom aubergine (deep purple) sheer tulle gown by Prabal Gurung. The garment featured a distinct mermaid silhouette that highlighted her frame with architectural precision. Her hair, styled in soft waves, perfectly matched the gown’s deep purple hue, creating a striking monochromatic effect that felt both modern and statuesque.
Janelle Monáe offered a thought-provoking commentary on technology and nature with her custom Christian Siriano “techno-organic” gown. This innovative piece was conceptualized as a machine overtaken by natural elements, meticulously constructed from 230 electrical wires, Ethernet polarized cables, and wires from an electrical server center. These industrial components were intricately intertwined with live moss, eight succulents, and 5,000 black crystals. The garment even incorporated dynamic movement, featuring four butterflies and two dragonflies within a structure atop a motherboard bodice.
La La Anthony, styled by Zerina Akers, showcased a Wiederhoeft gown that was a marvel of manual craftsmanship. The bronze-hued piece was fully hand-embroidered on tulle using a rich mixture of shiny and matte raffia, chandelier crystals, and glass cut beads. The construction employed a diverse array of techniques, including flat and padded satin stitches, French knots, and vermicelli beading. Beneath the exterior, which also featured wrapped wood beads and appliqué work, an interior nude satin lace-up corset ensured the gown maintained its structured and elegant shape.
Beyond the spectacular garments, beauty emerged as a quiet yet powerful element, with faces becoming canvases and hair transforming into sculptural art. The standout beauty moment of the night was undeniably Anok Yai's molten gold face, complete with wax-like tear tracks, which created a theatrical, haunting, and utterly unforgettable impression. Other notable figures like Keke Palmer, Adut Akech, and Simone Ashley also presented compelling beauty looks that pushed the boundaries of traditional glamour.
The 2026 Met Gala successfully blurred the lines between high fashion and fine art, reaffirming its status as a premier event that celebrates creativity, identity, and the boundless possibilities of artistic expression in costume.
