Meru DCP Leaders Initiate Process to Recall MP Rahim Dawood for Linking Them to Saba Saba Protests
A section of Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) officials in Imenti North constituency has announced plans to begin signature collection in efforts to remove from office the area Member of Parliament, Rahim Dawood.

The move comes days after the legislator alleged that the party was behind the recent Saba Saba protests, which led to widespread property destruction, including the burning of Magunas Supermarket.
Speaking at the DCP offices in Makutano, the officials, led by party coordinator Patrick Muriungi, termed Dawood’s claims as baseless and which were meant to mislead the public.
He claimed that the accusations were unfairly targeted at their leaders and were intended to damage the party’s reputation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Muriungi challenged the MP to provide facts to support his statements. He pointed out that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had already arrested three suspects in connection with the burning down of Magunas Supermarket, and none of them were linked to DCP.
“Because the DCI revealed the names of the suspects who are linked to that crime, we ask the MP to tell us and these leaders if there is even a single member of DCP who is on that list,” he said.
The officials also accused the legislator of attempting to drag DCP leaders from Meru, Mithika Linturi and Carol Muriuki, into the matter without any evidence.
He questioned why Dawood had singled out Carol, who has declared her interest in running for the Imenti North MP seat in 2027, suggesting that the remarks were politically motivated.
The DCP team said that they would mobilise residents to sign a petition to begin the legal process of recalling the MP.

Women leaders in the constituency, led by Lydia Munene, supported the planned recall of the legislator.
“We are fully behind Carol Muriuki and Mithika Linturi, and we are ready to add our signatures to send you (Rahim Dawood) home without fear," said Lydia.
The leaders also called on the DCI to ensure that Dawood formally records a statement to substantiate his allegations. They argued that if he believed in what he was saying, he should have no problem recording his statement.
Previously, reported that traders and locals in Makutano town had linked the Magunas Supermarket fire to people from outside the area.
The traders claimed those responsible for the chaotic scenes witnessed during the Saba Saba protests were strangers.
They noted that some of those seen in town during the protests were brought in from far away. However, they did not indicate who was responsible for bringing them.
