Mercury rises above season’s average, likely to increase further in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: The city experienced dry and warm weather conditions with the maximum temperature reaching 34.8°C on Wednesday. This was 2.2 notches higher than the previous day and 1 notch above the season's average. Minimum temperature was at 13.9°C, 0.9 degrees lower than the previous day and 3.3 degrees below normal.
"Dry weather is likely to continue across NCR till next week. Minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to rise by two degrees," an IMD official said.
Dr RR Dutta, HOD, internal medicine at Paras Health, Gurgaon, said, "The rising temperatures are taking a serious toll on public health. We have seen a rise in the number of patients, with many experiencing symptoms like fever, headaches, vomiting, and even unconsciousness. Dehydration is a major concern. Excessive heat drains the body's fluids rapidly, making it essential for people to stay hydrated and avoid heat exposure, especially during peak afternoon hours. The relentless heat is not only causing immediate discomfort to people, but also putting vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly, at higher risk of complications."
"Beyond heat exhaustion, we are also witnessing an increase in gastrointestinal disorders, with many patients experiencing watery motions, nausea, stomach pain, and dizziness. The sudden temperature fluctuations have further contributed to a rise in viral infections. While hydration and dietary adjustments can help manage mild cases, some patients require medical intervention, particularly when symptoms persist. Preventive measures, such as consuming a balanced diet, maintaining hygiene and replenishing lost fluids with electrolyte-rich drinks, are crucial in mitigating the impact of extreme weather conditions on overall health," he added.
