Mella Cafe

With a stacked menu full of pastries, waffles, coffee, and gelato, there are plenty of reasons to check out this Edgewater spot. But Mella’s delicious Ethiopian and Eritrean food distinguishes it from a typical neighborhood cafe. The breakfast sampler is the best way to try a bunch of dishes. It comes with fuul topped with feta, berbere-spiced scrambled eggs, potato salad, fitfit with chewy pieces of stir-fried kitcha, and loaves of French bread. It’s a lot of food, so plan to share with a friend while hanging out in the brightly lit space, or on their front patio.
Pretty Good: You’ll likely be satisfied by a meal here, especially for a specific situation. These are handy back-up restaurants and beloved local spots.

Demera in Uptown is one of the best Ethiopian spots in town. Go with a group and try a few different things.
