Marvel Confirms Avengers: Secret Wars Filming Nears as Wakanda's Future Takes Shape

Marvel Studios is accelerating work on the conclusion of its Multiverse Saga, with directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirming that filming for Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to begin soon. Speaking during their interview at San Diego Comic-Con, the filmmakers said preparations for the blockbuster are already underway as Avengers: Doomsday enters its final stages of post-production.

Anthony Russo revealed that the team is currently completing the film's score with composer Alan Silvestri, refining the sound mix and adding the final creative touches before release. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on18 December 2026, setting the stage for the MCU's biggest crossover event yet.

The Russo brothers also confirmed that work on Avengers: Secret Wars will begin almost immediately after Doomsday is completed. When asked when production would start, Anthony Russo replied, "Soon. So soon it makes us sweat a little bit," signalling that principal photography is imminent.

For African audiences, the announcement carries added significance following Marvel's recent confirmation that David Jonsson, the British actor of Nigerian and Sierra Leonean heritage, will lead the next chapter of the Black Panther franchise as T'Challa II. The studio also confirmed that Letitia Wright will continue her role as Shuri, ensuring Wakanda remains central to Marvel's long-term storytelling.

While Marvel kept most plot details under wraps, Secret Wars is expected to bring together heroes from across the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men and other corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is scheduled for release on 17 December 2027, one year after Avengers: Doomsday.
