developer NetEase Games stated that it still has not received a development kit for the Switch 2 from Nintendo, which is the main reason why the hit team shooter is not on the new console. Despite NetEase's ongoing interest in porting Marvel Rivals to the Switch 2, the developer is still in the process of getting the hardware they need to make it possible.

The news came as Marvel Rivals prepared to launch Season 3, titled The Abyss Awakens, on Friday, July 11. The new update will bring several additions to Marvel Rivals, including Jean Grey from X-Men as a new Duelist hero. Alongside Jean Grey's Phoenix powers, Marvel Rivals Season 3 will also include a new Domination map set on the Symbiotes' home planet of Klyntar, and new Team-Ups will be available for heroes like Jean Grey and Wolverine to utilize and turn the tide of a battle.

Marvel Rivals Has Good News for College Students

Marvel Rivals surprises players by announcing that it will be giving some special perks to college students in NetEase Games' popular hero shooter.

While demand for Marvel Rivals to gain a Switch 2 port remains strong, NetEase Games stated that fans must wait a bit longer before that can happen. Speaking to Video Gamer, Marvel Rivals game director Guangyun Chen stated that NetEase is still in the process of obtaining a Switch 2 development kit from Nintendo, and currently does not have access to the hardware needed to port the game to the new console. NetEase's statement correlates with statements from various developers who have been unable to get access to a Switch 2 development kit and subsequently port their projects. However, NetEase stated it will remain committed to getting a Switch 2 dev kit and porting its titles to the new console as soon as possible, though the process will take several months once the kits are secured.

NetEase also previously stated that porting Marvel Rivals to the original Switch is impossible. According to Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu, the reason it was not ported to the Switch was that the system's specifications were not conducive to providing a great gameplay experience on Unreal Engine 5. By comparison, the Switch 2's enhanced graphical capabilities, support for technologies like Nvidia DLSS upscaling, and the ability to use the Joy-Con 2 controllers in mouse mode could be useful features in a potential Marvel Rivals port.

As it stands, fans looking to enjoy what Marvel Rivals Season 3 has to offer must play the hit shooter on other available platforms like Steam and PS5. It remains to be seen if and when NetEase will be successful in acquiring a Switch 2 development kit.
