NDC Confident in Ablekuma North Rerun Victory
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is committed to an all-out effort to secure victory for its candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn, in the impending Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun. This resolute declaration came from Ketu North MP Edem Agbana, who, speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on July 5, confirmed that the party immediately recommenced its campaigning efforts following the Electoral Commission's (EC) announcement of the July 11 revote.
The rerun, which is set to take place across 19 polling stations, is the culmination of several months of intense disputes between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) concerning the outcomes of the December 2024 general election. Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission, officially confirmed the decision for the revote after extensive consultations with both political parties on July 1. This measure is intended to decisively resolve the existing impasse and, critically, "ensure electoral fairness" in the constituency.
Emphasizing the NDC's unwavering determination, Agbana stated, "We will go into the election without fear or favour. [Aubynn] certainly will win." This upcoming contest is more than just a local election; it represents a significant and critical test for both the ruling NDC, which aims to consolidate its parliamentary majority, and the NPP, as they both look ahead to Ghana’s broader 2028 general elections. The outcome in Ablekuma North is therefore seen as a crucial indicator of the political landscape to come.
