Marital Turmoil: 2Baba Cries Out For Help Amidst Spousal Conflict

The marital crisis involving Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, and his wife, Natasha Osawaru, an Edo State lawmaker, has escalated into a public spectacle, drawing the attention of official bodies and family members alike. The controversy, which has been trending across social media and television, has led the Edo House of Assembly to summon Natasha Osawaru to appear before its ethics and privileges committee over her recent conduct.
Speaking during a Tuesday plenary session, Blessing Agbebaku, the speaker of the assembly, vehemently stated that Osawaru’s actions have “dragged the name of the house into the mud” and that the lawmaker has been “trending on social media for the wrong reasons.” Agbebaku emphasized the expectation for members to conduct themselves properly in public, asserting that the house is “a very decent house” with “responsible and intelligent members.” He concluded by stating, “The conduct of a member cannot drag the house into disrepute. We frown against it and we will not take it.” Osawaru, who represents the Egor constituency, has been given one week to appear before the committee, which is expected to report back to the house within two weeks.
Several incidents have fueled the public drama. One prominent event involved a heated argument between Osawaru and 2Baba during an Instagram Live session hosted by media personality Daddy Freeze. During this session, 2Baba’s former managers, Kaka Igbokwe and Lori Tosan, appeared on the livestream and accused Natasha of seeking “full control” over the singer’s finances and career. The situation intensified when 2Baba unexpectedly joined the live session, forcefully telling his former managers to cease discussing his private life. Shortly after his intervention, a loud argument between him and Natasha became audibly off-camera. Another viral clip showed Osawaru seemingly screaming at 2Baba in a London shop, further escalating public concern.
Reports of the crisis originating in the United Kingdom, where the couple allegedly had a heated exchange leading to police intervention and 2Baba’s brief arrest, have also resurfaced. While 2Baba initially denied being arrested, claiming he missed a scheduled London show in October due to a medical emergency, his former manager Kaka Igbokwe confirmed the incident. Igbokwe, who claimed to be on the same flight with the couple, stated that the confrontation began after their arrival in London when Natasha became upset as 2Baba moved to meet fans, leading to police involvement and the singer’s arrest. A viral video from December 1, reposted by blogger Cutie Julls, shows officers speaking with 2Baba outside a store before escorting him away, although UK authorities have yet to comment on the alleged arrest, and Natasha has not addressed the video or the claims.
In response to the mounting public scrutiny, 2Baba posted a short, cryptic message, “Help me,” on his Instagram Story on Wednesday, marking his first public comment since the controversy gained traction. Fellow musician Teniola Apata, known as Teni, reacted by posting a video on Instagram, calling on co-singers Timaya and Kcee to intervene, captioning it, “2face my legend, we’re coming to save you.”
Subsequently, 2Baba shared a video message on his Facebook page, urging fans and well-wishers to remain calm. He described the situation as “getting out of hand” and “dangerous,” expressing concern that the ongoing speculation could put his wife, Natasha, at risk. “I know what fans can do, I know what people can do. I am perfectly okay. But this is putting Natasha at risk. It’s not fair to anyone,” 2Baba stated, pleading with friends, family, and fans to “cease fire” and allow the matter to be resolved privately. “People will get their issues sorted at home, not today. Please, I beg you. I am perfectly fine. Please, I’m okay,” he reiterated.
Family members have also voiced their concerns. 2Baba’s brother, Hyacinth Idibia, posted on his Instagram story, expressing worry that the singer’s life now mirrors the pain in his song lyrics. He wrote, “You’ve always been ahead, always been brilliant. Lyrics meant to inspire, but somehow it’s unfolding in real time… Painful reality. Allow us to save you. Oyinem, you’ve been suffering for too long. God knows.” This follows past public warnings from another brother, Charles Idibia, who accused Natasha of controlling 2Baba’s devices, cloning his WhatsApp, sabotaging business trips, and telling strangers she was his wife, urging the singer to step away from public pressure.
