Manilow's Health Battle: Legend Delays Vegas Residency Amidst Cancer Recovery Journey

Legendary artist Barry Manilow has announced the postponement of his May Las Vegas residency dates as he continues his recovery from lung cancer surgery, though he assures fans he is making significant progress and anticipates a triumphant return to the Westgate stage in July.

In an Instagram Story posted on Friday, May 1, the 82-year-old singer shared positive news from his doctor, stating, "Good news! I went to the doctor yesterday and he said I’m making great progress and look great! All the training and exercising I’ve put in is paying off." However, his doctor advised he is "not quite ready for Vegas" for the May shows. Despite this, Manilow confirmed he will be prepared for his June arena performances in the U.K., emphasizing his strong connection to the Westgate Las Vegas, calling it "my home away from home."

This May postponement marks the latest in a series of delays following Manilow's revelation of a Stage 1 lung cancer diagnosis in December 2023. He underwent surgery in late December to remove a cancerous spot from his left lung and has not performed since. His February Las Vegas residency dates were the first to be rescheduled, followed by his late February through March arena tour launch, and subsequently his April arena shows, all based on medical advice for extended recovery. Despite these challenges, Manilow remains steadfast in his commitment to performing, with his Las Vegas residency at Westgate slated to continue through December 2026, and his farewell arena tour, "The Last Concerts," also featuring rescheduled dates.

Manilow's illustrious career spans over five decades, during which he has achieved monumental success. Billboard named him the No. 1 Adult Contemporary Artist of all time, a testament to his sales of over 85 million albums worldwide and 13 No. 1 singles on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart. His accolades include Grammy, Tony, and Emmy Awards, and an induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Demonstrating his enduring artistic vitality, Manilow's new single, "Once Before I Go," became a top 10 hit on the Adult Contemporary chart in March. This achievement made him the only artist in history to score an Adult Contemporary hit in six consecutive decades, a remarkable run stretching from the 1970s through the 2020s. Furthermore, his new album, "What a Time," featuring his first collection of new material in nearly 15 years, is scheduled for release on June 5.
