Manhunt Ends: Ogun Police Nab Suspects in Grisly Edo Kidnapping-Murder Case

The Ogun State Police Command has successfully apprehended two suspects, Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode. Preliminary investigations have linked these individuals to a severe kidnapping and murder incident that occurred in the Okada area of Edo State, where two hostages were tragically involved. This significant breakthrough highlights the command's commitment to combating cross-state criminal activities.

The arrests were a result of meticulously planned, intelligence-led operations conducted by the Ogun State Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit. These operations built upon earlier arrests made by operatives of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, demonstrating effective inter-agency collaboration. Following extensive profiling and intelligence gathering, it was revealed that Adamu and Sanni were wanted in connection with the ongoing kidnapping and murder case in Edo State.

Further intelligence indicates that the apprehended individuals are alleged members of a larger seven-man kidnapping syndicate. This syndicate is believed to be responsible for the abduction and subsequent killing of the two hostages in the neighboring Edo State. The identification and apprehension of these key suspects represent a critical step towards unraveling the full extent of the syndicate's operations and bringing all members to justice.

During the course of the investigation and subsequent search, officers recovered crucial exhibits from the suspects: a pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones. These items have been meticulously documented and retained as evidence to support the ongoing investigations. The discovery of a police camouflage uniform has raised concerns regarding the methods allegedly employed by criminal groups to impersonate security personnel or evade detection during their operations, though authorities did not immediately disclose if the uniform was used in the specific kidnappings under investigation.

Given that the alleged offenses occurred outside Ogun State, in line with established inter-state policing procedures, the suspects and all recovered exhibits will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command. This transfer will facilitate further investigation and necessary legal processes, ensuring that justice is pursued under the primary jurisdiction of the state where the crimes were committed.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, lauded the operatives for their professionalism, diligence, and intelligence-gathering capabilities. He described the operation as coordinated and intelligence-driven, emphasizing that these arrests reflect the command’s unwavering commitment to tackling criminal networks that operate across state lines. CP Ojajuni reiterated that the Ogun Police Command remains resolute in its determination to prevent criminal elements from using the state as a hideout, safe haven, or transit point for unlawful activities.

The Command affirmed its continuous efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering, deploy proactive policing measures, and foster strategic inter-agency collaboration to enhance public safety and security across Ogun State. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, as such cooperation is deemed vital in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
