Manchester United Seals Blockbuster €45m Deal for Atalanta Star Éderson!

Manchester United has successfully sealed an agreement with Atalanta for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Ederson, marking a significant and early splash in the summer transfer market as the club prepares for the upcoming season. According to reports, the 26-year-old will join the Old Trafford club for a guaranteed fee of £35 million ($47 million; €40.5 million), with an additional £4 million ($5 million; €4.5 million) in performance-related bonuses and add-ons.
Personal terms have already been settled for a contract that will run until June 2030, with the option to extend by a further year. Ederson is still required to pass a medical examination, with all parties aiming to finalize the move in early July. This transfer will make Ederson United's first signing of the summer and the first since Michael Carrick's appointment as permanent head coach.
Sources indicate that Manchester United had been tracking Ederson for a considerable period and were able to move quickly after a proposed transfer to Atlético Madrid stalled. Ederson himself had attracted interest from several elite clubs but made United his priority. With his contract at Atalanta set to expire in the summer of 2027, the Premier League side managed to negotiate a fee well below what had been quoted in earlier transfer windows. During his four years at Atalanta, the midfielder made 180 appearances and has earned three international caps.
The acquisition signals a decisive start to the transfer window for United, who were in dire need of midfield reinforcement following the departure of Casemiro. Further additions in that position are expected, especially with more player exits possible, and with Michael Carrick's team having secured Champions League qualification for the 2026–27 season.
Beyond the Ederson deal, United are reportedly set to intensify their pursuit of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The 21-year-old is expected to leave the London Stadium after West Ham's relegation to the Championship, and United have already made contact regarding a potential deal. Additionally, the club is interested in adding a left-back to their squad this summer, with doubts surrounding Luke Shaw's capacity to handle a workload of three games per week across both the Premier League and Champions League.
In terms of outgoings, goalkeeper Andre Onana, 30, who spent the last season on loan at Trabzonspor, plans to return to Carrington for preseason training this summer if another move away has not been agreed. However, Onana has been informed that he is not part of United's plans for the next season.
