Man United Meltdown: Fans Demand Managerial Shake-Up as Amorim Exit Looms

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly facing a challenging period at Old Trafford, with growing concerns among the club's co-owners, Ineos, that he might choose to resign to protect his managerial reputation. Since his appointment in November 2024, Amorim has struggled to deliver consistent results. Last season, United finished a disappointing 16th in the Premier League, well outside European qualification spots, despite reaching the Europa League final where they were defeated by Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.
The current season has also started poorly for Amorim's side. Following a victory over Chelsea, United have suffered three Premier League defeats and were shockingly eliminated from the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town. Under Amorim's leadership, the team has secured just 19 wins from 49 matches across all competitions, fueling widespread scrutiny over his future at the club.
Despite the mounting pressure, reports suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos are prepared to stand by Amorim. The British billionaire is believed to be committed to a long-term vision for Manchester United and is reportedly reluctant to make a swift managerial change. However, internal club concerns persist that Ineos may not have control over the situation, with sources suggesting Amorim is increasingly frustrated by what he perceives as 'knee-jerk' reactions and intense scrutiny following losses. It is believed he might soon contemplate stepping down to 'preserve his managerial career'.
As speculation about Amorim's future intensifies, discussion around potential successors has emerged, though no managers have been officially approached. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly an admirer of Gareth Southgate, known for his successful tenure with the England national team. However, Manchester Evening News readers are frequently mentioning Oliver Glasner as a leading candidate.
Oliver Glasner, who successfully led Crystal Palace to an FA Cup triumph last season and has 12 months remaining on his Selhurst Park deal, has become a bookmakers' favourite to replace Amorim. When questioned about the speculation linking him to United and other top clubs, Glasner responded neutrally, stating he focuses on his daily work with his players and coaches.
United supporters, as voiced in the Manchester Evening News comments section, show a strong inclination towards Glasner. Reader 'Jimmy81lc' highlighted Glasner's superior experience with Palace, Eintracht, and Wolfsberg, urging United not to 'waste any more time with Amorim'. 'Jasper JH' succinctly called for 'Taxi for Amorim. Private jet for Glasner. Today.' Other readers, like 'Duff.', expressed bewilderment at Amorim's 'stubborn refusal to change'. 'MonkeyNutz' recalled Ralph Rangnick's previous suggestion to hire Glasner, emphasizing the need for a 'Premier League proven manager' and naming Glasner and Iraola as suitable options, while dismissing Southgate due to his lack of league management success. The sentiment among fans suggests that only a dominant victory against high-flying Sunderland this Saturday would offer any reprieve for Amorim.
