Man Interrupts Court Proceedings to Blast DCI & IG Kanja's Lawyer - Kenyans.co.ke

Court proceedings were briefly halted on Tuesday, July 1, after an irate man openly called out the lawyers representing the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja and the Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Amin Mohammed, in a passionate rant.

Kanja was expected to present himself at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, after orders were issued to either produce missing lawyer and blogger Ndiang'ui Kinyagia in court or provide a valid explanation for his disappearance.

However, the IG failed to show up for the hearing and was instead represented by his lawyer, who tried to explain the reasons behind his absence.

This did not augur well with one attendee of the hearing, who interrupted proceedings by going on a passionate rant, calling out the IG and the State at large for allegedly furthering the issue of abductions.

"You must stop the abductions. You must stop the extrajudicial killings. We will not come here to listen to your stories," he said.

"You have abducted someone, and their family is hurting, yet you are here telling us stories. It is not right to abduct someone and fail to bring them to court."

Attempts by one security personnel on site to calm the member down proved futile, as he went on with his rant, calling out security agencies in the country.

"This is not right. Why should they abduct someone, and instead of presenting them to court, they are talking about 'My Client'? What are we supposed to do if the people who are supposed to protect us have turned out to be the greatest threat to our security?" he added.

People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, who was also present at the Milimani Law Courts, was critical of DCI Amin for holding a presser on Monday, June 30, with full knowledge of the court summons. According to Karua, the DCI boss deliberately flouted sub judice rules.

"The second respondent, long after you had given your orders, decided to appear in public and deny having Kinyagia in his custody. He will deny it publicly but will not come to assist the court to reach a decision. He also denied it in a manner that is sub judice," Karua observed.

Kinyagia went missing on June 22, just three days before the planned June 25 protests. Days earlier, the blogger had shared a post on his X platform on Thursday, June 19, detailing the itinerary of the June 25 protests that included a plan to march to the State House and the declaration of a new republic.

Amid the mystery surrounding Kinyagia's whereabouts, DCI boss Amin Mohammed revealed during his presser that police did not have the blogger in custody.

"Ndiangui Kinyagia is not under the custody of the National Police Service; he is a person of interest to us, and wherever he is, I'll urge that he submit himself and that he surrender to the nearest police station," Amin stated.

However, Amin admitted that his officers managed to search the house of the activist and were able to recover electronic items.

''Unfortunately, he (Ndiangui) was not in his apartment. We managed to search and we were able to recover an assortment of electronic gadgets that we believe will be useful to us in our investigations. We were able to do an inventory, which was countersigned by the caretaker of those apartments.''

Activist and blogger Ndiangui Kinyagia, who has reportedly been abducted over posting the 'timetable' for the June 25 protests.
