Major Blow? Super Eagles Star Faces Potential Ban Against Ndidi’s Besiktas!
Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu faces a looming suspension threat ahead of Trabzonspor's critical Turkish Super Lig matches, including a derby against Wilfred Ndidi's Besiktas. With three yellow cards, another booking in the next game would sideline the 22-year-old from the highly anticipated clash. This situation puts pressure on Nwaiwu to balance his defensive aggression with the need to avoid disciplinary action.
Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu is facing a significant risk of suspension ahead of Trabzonspor's crucial Turkish Super Lig fixtures. The highly-rated Nigerian centre-back is approaching a critical disciplinary threshold, which could see him miss one of the club's most anticipated matches: the derby against Besiktas, featuring his fellow Super Eagles teammate, Wilfred Ndidi.
Nwaiwu, 22, has rapidly established himself as an important figure in Trabzonspor's defensive setup since joining the club from Austria earlier in the year. However, his disciplinary record puts him in a precarious position for the upcoming league games against Samsunspor and Besiktas.
According to Turkish outlet Haber61, Nwaiwu is one of two Trabzonspor players currently on a disciplinary tightrope. Under the Turkish Super Lig's rules, players who accumulate four yellow cards in the league are subject to a one-match suspension. Nwaiwu currently has three league bookings. This means that if he receives another yellow card in Trabzonspor's match against Samsunspor, he would automatically be ruled out of the subsequent crucial encounter with Besiktas.
His booking situation is particularly significant given the importance of the Besiktas clash and the added dynamic of potentially facing Ndidi. Nwaiwu would be expected to maintain his aggressive defensive style, essential for protecting his team's goal, but must do so without incurring a booking that would cost him a place in the derby.
This season, Nwaiwu has made six appearances in the Super Lig for Trabzonspor. He provided an assist in the resounding 5-0 home victory over Genclerbirligi, but also picked up one of his yellow cards in that same encounter. His other two bookings were received in matches against Amed SK and Basaksehir.
Despite these past infractions, the young defender, who is increasingly considered one of Nigeria's most valuable defensive talents, has demonstrated recent discipline. He successfully avoided bookings in Trabzonspor's last two league matches, which included a full 90-minute performance in a dominant 4-0 win against champions Galatasaray, as well as the game against Konyaspor. However, the pressure remains for Nwaiwu to continue this careful balance to ensure his availability for the pivotal Besiktas derby.
