Dodowa (GAR), May 17, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has lauded Madam Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister and her team Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for their work in improving the street lighting and public safety in Accra.  

“Well late communities detect crimes and enhance urban mobility. I encourage the continuation and expansion of this initiative and will give it the full support of Central Government,” President Mahama remarked at the durbar of the Chiefs and People of the Greater Accra Region in Dodowa during his National “Thank You Tour” of the Region. 

The National “Thank You Tour” is to enable the President express gratitude to Ghanaians for their massive support for him and the National Democratic Congress during the December 7, 2024, general election.  

The President said the Government would soon start the distribution and installation of street lights in all district of the Greater Accra. 

This, he said, would be important to promote the Government’s 24-Hour Economy Policy, especially for persons who have to work in the night. 

President Mahama said under the market enhancement programme, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang was leading a team that would select important markets across the country for improvement and reconstruction.  

He noted that he believed that the Dodowa market was one of those that would see improvement. 

The President said his Government was committed to decentralization, local governance and inclusive development and that was why Ghanaians continue to see greater engagements between the Presidency and traditional councils. 

“I will personally ensure that the voices of Ga-Dangme communities, our fisher folks, our market women, our youth leaders and professionals in this Region are always heard and respected,” he said. 

“Let us continue on this path, hand in hand, heart to heart. Let us uphold the peace we are enjoying. Let us work together to build Greater Accra that reflects the greatness of Ghana itself.” 

The President thanked the Chiefs and People of the Greater Accra Region their massive support, sacrifice, prayers and believe in him; saying “and I wish to assure you that I shall never disappoint you”.
