Magical Revival: HBO Max Unleashes Reimagined 'Harry Potter' Universe

The highly anticipated HBO Max Harry Potter series is currently undergoing a complete reconstruction of the wizarding world, with new set images revealing an expansive reimagining of Hogwarts. Filming for the long-gestating TV adaptation is underway in the UK, with a planned debut in 2027. Recent photos provide a clear look at the scale of this new Hogwarts, showcasing visible constructions such as the iconic Hogwarts courtyard, what appears to be Professor Sprout’s greenhouse, and the distinct outline of the Whomping Willow. This deep-cut detail, particularly the Whomping Willow, is already generating excitement among fans of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" and "Prisoner of Azkaban."
The revelation of Professor Sprout’s greenhouse is particularly noteworthy. As readers of the books will recall, this is where the Head of Hufflepuff House teaches Herbology, and it plays a crucial role in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" with the introduction of Mandrakes. The early construction of this set suggests a long-term vision from HBO Max, literally planting the seeds for future seasons well in advance of the first season's airing.
The series features a stellar cast bringing beloved characters to life. Dominic McLaughlin will star as Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adult cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. The Weasley family is also well-represented, with Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, and Tristan Harland, Gabriel Harland, Ruari Spooner, and Gracie Cochrane cast as Fred, George, Percy, and Ginny Weasley, respectively. Lox Pratt will portray Draco Malfoy.
Other Hogwarts students include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, and Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley. Additional cast members rounding out the series include Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Louise Brealey as Madam Hooch, and Leigh Gill as Griphook.
Production for the series commenced in early summer 2025 and is scheduled to continue through the end of the year. Following this initial filming period, a short break will be taken before production resumes for Season 2, which is set to adapt the events of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."
