Magic: The Gathering Rules Out Harry Potter Crossover Despite Hasbro Licensing Deal

Hasbro has announced it will become the “primary” manufacturer for Harry Potter toys and board games beginning in 2027, expanding its merchandise portfolio tied to J.K. Rowling’s wizarding franchise.
The agreement initially sparked speculation among fans about whether the license could extend to a crossover with Magic: The Gathering, the flagship trading card game produced by Hasbro subsidiary Wizards of the Coast.
However, the company has now clarified that such a collaboration is not in development.
In a discussion on the Magic: The Gathering subreddit, the official Wizards Community Team account addressed the rumors directly, stating there are no current plans for a Harry Potter-themed set within Magic: The Gathering.
The team pointed to the game’s established creative direction, noting that the Magic Multiverse already includes its own wizarding school, Strixhaven, with ongoing storylines and expansions.
They also referenced the game’s crossover initiative, Universes Beyond, explaining that the current roadmap does not include a visit to the Harry Potter universe.
The clarification underscores Wizards of the Coast’s focus on preserving the creative integrity and long-term world-building strategy of the Magic Multiverse.
While Hasbro’s broader licensing deal opens the door for expanded Harry Potter merchandise across toys and board games, it appears the iconic trading card franchise will continue charting its own course, at least for now.
