Luxury Reimagined: 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS Flaunts Radical Interior Refresh and Tech Boost

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS is set to receive a significant midcycle update, reinforcing its position as the brand's flagship SUV and the "S-Class of SUVs." Since its 2019 debut, the current generation has been lauded for delivering unparalleled luxury and comfort within a spacious, three-row package. This upcoming refresh builds on that successful formula, introducing more power, advanced technology, and a richer set of standard features, making the large SUV smarter, more tech-intensive, and even more comfortable. The updated GLS was previewed during an exclusive event along Spain’s sun-soaked Costa del Sol in Andalucía, showcasing its DARK PETROL exterior and MANUFAKTUR nappa leather truffle brown interior.

A major highlight of the interior refresh is the new pillar-to-pillar glass panel, which seamlessly integrates three 12.3-inch displays. These screens serve the driver, the central infotainment system, and the front passenger, evolving from the previous MBUX Superscreen. Beyond just screen size, the fundamental upgrade lies in the introduction of MB.OS, a cutting-edge new software platform. MB.OS functions as the vehicle’s central computer, meticulously integrating infotainment, driver assistance functions, and other critical vehicle systems. This sophisticated architecture enables comprehensive over-the-air updates and incorporates Microsoft-powered artificial intelligence, designed to act as a digital assistant that continuously learns and adapts to user preferences over time.

The Superscreen is now a standard feature across every GLS model, and the updated infotainment system provides access to an integrated onboard app store. This extensive app selection includes popular video streaming services like YouTube and Disney+, a variety of gaming applications, and productivity tools such as Meetings for Teams, which can even utilize the vehicle’s camera while on the move. The interface operates intuitively, much like a smartphone, allowing users to organize and group apps into custom folders. Notably, video content can be displayed on the front passenger screen even while the vehicle is in motion, safeguarded by a system that intelligently dims the screen if it detects the driver’s attention diverting from the road. During an exclusive preview in Málaga, the system demonstrated crisp graphics and exceptionally fast response times, underscoring Mercedes' commitment to making the GLS a state-of-the-art SUV through MB.OS.

Navigation capabilities have also seen significant advancements. The built-in navigation system is now underpinned by Google Maps, ensuring accurate and up-to-date mapping. A new feature for the GLS is the MBUX Augmented Navigation Head-Up Display, which enhances the driving experience by projecting directional arrows, precise lane guidance, and crucial points of interest directly onto the windshield, positioning directions clearly within the driver’s line of sight for immediate recognition.

Mercedes-Benz has also ensured that rear-seat passengers benefit from the latest innovations. The rear entertainment system now boasts two 11.6-inch displays, each accompanied by its own remote control. These controls allow passengers to adjust various seat functions, including massage settings, and manage on-screen preferences. The versatile rear setup can effortlessly stream movies, perfect for entertaining children on long journeys, or transform into a sophisticated mobile conference room, thanks to integrated cameras facilitating video calls. This comprehensive suite of updates positions the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS as a pinnacle of automotive luxury, technology, and comfort.
