Luno & AltSchool Ignite Crypto Education for 15,000 Nigerian Students!

Luno, a global cryptocurrency platform, and AltSchool Africa, an accredited online learning provider, have announced a strategic partnership to launch a free crypto education program aimed at empowering 15,000 Nigerians. Titled “Demystifying Crypto for Africans,” this beginner-friendly course is set to commence in March 2026 and will run throughout the year, marking what both companies describe as Africa’s largest coordinated crypto literacy initiative to date.
The initiative, unveiled in Lagos, addresses the critical need for improved financial literacy and trust in digital assets within Nigeria, one of Africa’s most active crypto markets. With approximately a third of the population already engaging with digital assets, primarily driven by a young, tech-savvy demographic seeking alternatives for savings, remittances, and global trade, the rapid adoption has also exposed significant knowledge gaps. These gaps often leave users vulnerable to misinformation, scams, and poorly understood financial risks. The program's core objective is to foster safer participation in the rapidly expanding digital economy.
The partnership combines Luno’s focus on responsible crypto use with AltSchool Africa’s extensive experience in delivering accessible digital education. The curriculum is designed to provide structured, practical learning specifically grounded in African realities. It focuses on everyday use cases for digital assets rather than solely speculative trading, placing a strong emphasis on safety and informed decision-making for participants.
The “Demystifying Crypto for Africans” program will be delivered in three distinct cohorts, each comprising 5,000 learners. The first cohort is scheduled to begin in March 2026, following application periods in January and February. Cohort two will follow in July 2026, and the third cohort will commence in November 2026. This staggered approach allows the organizers to refine delivery methods and scale support effectively throughout the year.
The course will be led by Web3 educator Abdulsamad Tiamiyu and is structured as a comprehensive three- to four-week program. Learners will benefit from up to one year of access to the course materials. Participants will navigate through five core modules that cover the fundamentals of cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, digital wallets, exchanges, stablecoins, and essential research tools such as CoinGecko and Etherscan. The curriculum thoughtfully blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, enabling learners to interact directly with the digital tools they are likely to encounter in real-world financial activities. Upon successful completion of the assessments, participants will be awarded an AltSchool Africa Certificate of Completion.
Ayotunde Alabi, CEO of Luno Nigeria, characterized the partnership as a timely intervention, stressing that as crypto adoption accelerates across Africa, education must keep pace to ensure secure and sustainable participation. He explained that this initiative underscores Luno’s long-term investment in building trust and integrity within the digital asset ecosystem, assisting users in converting perceived risks into meaningful economic opportunities. Adewale Yusuf, Co-founder and CEO of AltSchool Africa, echoed these sentiments, framing the program as a vital investment in economic empowerment. He highlighted the indispensable role of clear, practical education for Africans to fully engage in the global digital economy and expressed AltSchool’s pride in collaborating with a partner that prioritizes clarity and measurable impact.
Eligibility for the program is open to Nigerian residents aged 18 and above who can commit to completing the course within four weeks. A prerequisite for enrollment is that applicants must already possess, or create, a Luno account. Applications will open in January 2026 via the AltSchool Africa portal, with successful candidates receiving notification within one week.
